Dr. Indrek Seire on pea kogu oma karjääri pühendanud seedetrakti pahaloomuliste haiguste diagnostikale ja kirurgilisele ravile. Tema erihuvi on endoskoopiĺine ja väheinvasiivne kirurgia, mida koos kolleegidega on järjepidevalt arendatud viimase 20 aasta jooksul.
Jämesoole laparoskoopilise kirurgia vallas on Dr. Seire ja tema meeskond pälvinud ka rahvusvahelist tähelepanu, saavutatud on kompetentsikeskuse staatus.
Aastatel 2019 – 2024 juhtis Dr. Seire aktiivse kirurgitöö kõrvalt Eesti suurimat endoskoopiakeskust Regionaalhaiglas.Tõenduspõhise ravi kõrval on Dr. Indrek Seire pikaajaliseks huviks olnud seedetrakti kasvajate ennetus ja varajane diagnostika. Ta on osalenud aktiivselt soolevähi riikliku sõeluuringu programmis nii endoskopisti kui eestkõnelejana.
2023. aastal astus Dr. Seire Tartu Ülikooli doktorantuuri, et täpsemalt uurida meie soolevähi patsientide raviteekonda ja leida lahendusi vähiravi statistiliste näitajate parandamiseks.
Statistika kohaselt sureb Eestis ikka veel oluliselt rohkem inimesi soolevähki kui meie naaberriikides Soomes ja Rootsis. Jääme alla ka Euroopas keskmistele tulemustele.
